Learning From 72 Years of Marriage

Posted January 16, 2019 • Conflict Mastery,Emotional Intelligence • by Jennifer Goldman-Wetzler, Ph.D.

Last night, my cousin Arielle’s grandmother, Annette Hoffman, passed away. At 91 years old, she was married to Seymour for 72 years– they got married when she was 19.

Arielle said that Seymour was still showering her with love, as he had been for all those years.

I imagine that people who have been happily married for 72 years know something about how to love, care, compromise, collaborate, accommodate, negotiate, comfort, give, receive, forgive, remember what is important and forget what is not.

The next time you struggle to do these things– at home or at work– consider finding someone who has been happily married for decades, and ask their advice.
